Equipment manufacturers are rolling out low and zero-emission solutions that will help reduce carbon emissions and are investing in several technologies to meet future regulatory and customer requirements.

鈥淲e believe three technologies are needed to reach net zero: Battery electric, fuel cell electric and the combustion engine running on renewable fuels,鈥� said Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks. While speaking during ACT Expo, Alm said Volvo Trucks will only produce zero-emission trucks beginning in 2040.

The most effective signs streamline information and make it easy for customers to connect with the messaging. Travel center signs should be clutter free. 鈥淚t is decluttered, more focused messaging. That applies to price signs and digital signs,鈥� said Cameron Cordova, vice president of sales at PMW Electronic Price Signs. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 want to do too much. We鈥檙e a micro-consumption type of society. You don鈥檛 want to create something people have to stand there and read.鈥�

Truck stop and travel center operators who cast a wide net when recruiting will increase the likelihood of finding quality candidates with the right skills and attract a diverse group of employees.

For Coffee Cup Fuel Stops locations, attracting a diverse range of candidates is important because they, like many travel centers, are in unpopulated areas.

鈥淲e cast a wide net and use all kinds of mechanisms for recruiting,鈥� Ericka Schapekahm, director of human resources for Coffee Cup Fuel Stops said.

鈥淲e have floats in every parade. We do volunteer work. In Vermillion, the manager runs the Toast Master Group,鈥� Schapekahm said. 鈥淚t is fun, but it is intentional.鈥�

Demand for Hydrogen Ramps Up as OEMs Make Progress on Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Vehicles

Original equipment manufacturers are proving out new hydrogen technologies to meet more stringent emissions requirements, and the new vehicle designs are expected to dramatically increase demand for hydrogen, according to speakers at ACT Expo 2024.

Vehicles are fueled similar to how diesel is dispensed today, there is no extra weight, and vehicles can travel 500 miles or more before refueling. 鈥淭rying to mimic a diesel like fueling experience is the goal,鈥� said Kimberly Okafor, general manager of zero emissions solutions for Trillium, a Love鈥檚 company.
