Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship 2021 Application Process Open

The 黑料社区Foundation will award five scholarships of $5,000 each in 2021 to deserving applicants. The 黑料社区Foundation currently is  until May 14, 2021. All truckstop and travel plaza owners and operators, their employees and their legal dependents are eligible. Applicants are selected based on a short essay, academic merit and community activities.

The Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship Program has been changing lives for more than 20 years, awarding more than $300,000 in scholarships to date.

The 黑料社区Foundation awarded $25,000 in scholarships through the Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship program to five students with ties to the truckstop and travel plaza industry in 2020. The recipients of the 黑料社区Foundation’s 2020 Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship are:

  • Kevin Dhaliwal, Tomahawk Travel Center
  • Kyle Dhaliwal, Tomahawk Travel Center
  • Sean Momin, Pat’s Travel Center
  • Yadira Galindo Salazar, Petro Stopping Center #27
  • Sikes Wilson, Busy Bee #25

The scholarships provide much needed and deserved assistance to those who are planning for their post-secondary education.

The scholarship program is named after Bill and Carolyn Moon, who founded the Iowa 80 Group and made substantial contributions to NATSO, actively supporting and participating in industry-related government affairs issues.

Bill Moon served as chairman of 黑料社区in 1989 and as the first chairman of the 黑料社区Foundation in 1990. He lost his battle with cancer in 1992. For 50 years, Carolyn Moon worked at the Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale, serving as chairman of the board and chief information officer.

The 黑料社区Foundation releases the scholarship application each spring and applicants are judged by an independent review with selections based on an essay, academic merit, extracurricular activities, community activities and recommendation(s).

Wlazlowski Neuman leads 黑料社区and the 黑料社区Foundation鈥檚 public affairs initiatives and communications strategies to promote the truck stop and travel center industry to the public, opinion leaders, elected officials, and the media. Her outreach includes a spectrum of policy issues facing the industry, with a particular focus on transportation and fuel issues, truck parking, and human trafficking. She serves as NATSO鈥檚 representative on the U.S. Department of Transportation鈥檚 National Truck Parking Coalition, the Clean Freight Coalition, and various state truck parking technical advisory committees. She is the architect of the truck stop and travel center industry鈥檚 anti-human trafficking campaign and currently serves as a Committee member for the U.S. Department of Transportation鈥檚 Human Trafficking Advisory Council. Wlazlowski Neuman serves on the American Highway Users Policy and Government Affairs Committee.
