The House of Representatives late Friday night approved 219-212 a budget reconciliation bill reflecting President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan, sending the bill to the Senate for consideration. The legislation would provide direct payments, a child tax credit expansion in the form of direct payments, extended unemployment benefits, COBRA subsidies and ACA tax credit enhancements, state & local funding, among other provisions.

NATSO, along with a coalition representing trucking fleets and truck drivers in need urged the Centers for Disease Control to designate truckstops and travel plazas as mobile vaccination sites to leverage existing truckstop locations for the distribution of vaccines to professional truck drivers and truckstop employees.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) late February 12 extended the Hours-of-Service waiver through May 31. The HOS waiver had been set to expire on Feb. 28. The agency said that it expects this to be the fourth and final extension of the waiver. The national exemption to the HOS rules for truck drivers and carriers hauling COVID-19 relief was first issued on March 12, 2020, in response to the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump.
