President Obama on Jan. 28 signed into law the Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act of 2015, which requires the packaging of liquid nicotine containers for use in electronic cigarettes to be subject to existing child poisoning prevention packaging standards. The legislation requires that all liquid-nicotine containers have packaging that makes it difficult for children under five years old to open.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has asked the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to authorize a study of e-cigarette sales and marketing, potentially injecting itself into a contentious debate that will become more intense in the coming months when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to adopt a final rule regulating electronic cigarettes and vapor/liquid nicotine products.

The Obama Administration released new advice about what Americans should eat to stay healthy, as well as a proposed regulation related to the use of photo identification requirements on Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards used for the redemption of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as food stamps.

11-06-2015 by NATSO House Subcommittee Advances Menu-Labeling Legislation

The Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act cleared a key House panel Nov. 4, setting the stage for a Committee vote on legislation that would make the Food and Drug Administration鈥檚 menu labeling regulations less burdensome on small businesses. The House Energy and Commerce Committee could mark up the bill, which advanced out of the Subcommittee on Health, by mid-November.
