Chicago Planning Agency Calls for Congestion Pricing

/

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) called on Illinois transportation policymakers to incorporate  into six major tollway projects, asserting that the program would permit faster travel times and capture $74 million annually in revenues for toll system maintenance and expenses. Under congestion pricing, separate express lanes would be constructed as part of the five highway projects. Motorists would be charged a premium to use these express lanes. Pricing also would be adjusted throughout the day on express and conventional lanes, with motorists paying higher premiums during periods of intense traffic.
