Congressman Bost Visits TA to Highlight Role of Truckstops in Providing Truck Parking
Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) today will be conducting a “Take Your Congressman to Work Day” at a TravelCenters of America (TA) truck stop in Mt. Vernon, Ill., followed by media availability to highlight the important role that truckstops play in providing safe parking for commercial drivers. Rep. Bost will be joined by representatives from bp, TA and NATSO.
Congressman Bost earlier this year introduced the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, which would allocate funds for state departments of transportation to partner with the private sector to expand truck parking capacity.
In a statement to media, Congressman Bost said, "I look forward to this event bringing continued focus to this issue while highlighting the great work our truck stop operators are doing to meet the needs of our truckers.”
Truckstops and travel centers provide 90 percent of the commercial truck parking for the nation’s professional truck drivers.

The Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act recognizes the important role that travel centers and truckstops play in serving America’s long-haul truck drivers by prioritizing grant applications that demonstrate consultation with private providers of truck parking as well as a demonstrated shortage of commercial vehicle parking.Under the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, grant recipients, which include state transportation departments, metropolitan planning organizations and local governments, may utilize funds to put in commercial truck parking adjacent to private commercial truckstops or travel plazas. Travel Centers are uniquely positioned to provide all of the amenities that truck drivers need, including food, fuel, and showers along with a place to rest, as they travel the nation’s Interstate Highways.
