EPA and NHTSA Finalize Fuel Economy Standards for Light Duty Vehicles
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last week aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and improving fuel economy for light-duty vehicles for model years 2017 and beyond. The rule is estimated to reduce oil sales by 4 billion barrels and to reduce GHG emissions by the equivalent of 2 billion metric tons over the lifetimes of those light duty vehicles produced between 2017 and 2025. The final rule goes into effect 60 days after its publication in the Federal Register.
