The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last week temporarily  Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) requirements in eight states to prevent gasoline shortages after fuel supplies from refineries in the Gulf area were disrupted by Hurricane Isaac. The waiver affects gas stations in Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.

The waiver applies to the use of RVP gasoline for the remainder of the “high ozone” period, which ends on Sept 15. The waiver allows available supplies of higher RVP gasoline to be used prior to the end of the high ozone period.

Gas prices  between 5 and 14 cents immediately following the Hurricane due to reduced output from refineries.
