Georgia Truckstops and Travel Plazas Eligible for Funds to Electrify Truck Parking
Amy Toner/NATSO
Truckstops and travel plazas located within 10 miles of an EPA designated non-attainment and maintenance area in Georgia are eligible for funding to electrify truck parking spaces (ETPS) under new grants from the Georgia Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administrations Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program.
A total of $2.5 million will be awarded under the program, known as Unnecessary Idle Control by Electrification (UICE), with grants of up to $1 million for each project. Applicants must demonstrate that their project will improve air quality within the non-attainment area; and recipients must provide at least a 20 percent match to funds.
An eligible grant recipient is any business, nonprofit, or government responsible for truck parking spaces or ETPS vendor or manufacturer that seeks grant funding for a project that meets all the general terms and conditions.
Applications are due June 12, 2012. Applicants are encouraged to submit separate application forms for each location.
