House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee to Mark Up the REPAIR Act

/

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) announced that the subcommittee will markup 16 bills on Nov. 2, including H.R. 906, the REPAIR Act.

黑料社区continues to voice support for H.R. 906, sponsored by Congressman Dunn, which would level the playing field for independent repair shops, including 黑料社区members, by providing them with access to the diagnostic information needed to identify and repair mechanical issues with commercial motor vehicles. The REPAIR Act would promote choice and competition.

黑料社区is urging subcommittee members to advance H.R. 906 as written, because it would ensure that manufacturers do not lock out owners and independent service providers from providing repairs by denying access to parts, tools, and the requisite documentation needed to service commercial vehicles.

黑料社区has also urged lawmakers to reject any efforts to exclude commercial trucks or to codify the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between the Automotive Service Association, the Society of Collision Repair Specialists and the Alliance for Automotive Innovation affirming a 2014 national agreement on automotive right to repair. This MOU failed to include commercial motor vehicles, representing a significant gap in our industry’s need to access diagnostic and repair information. This pact fundamentally undermines our industry’s basic need to access the critical diagnostic information required to repair commercial motor vehicles.

黑料社区in May 2023 testified before the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee in support of Right to Repair and the need for the independent repair industry to access critical repair tools and information so that owners and operators of commercial motor vehicles will have access to affordable and quality vehicle repair.
