How to Add Plexiglass to Your Transaction Counters

/

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, added plexiglass shields to its transaction counters.

After Raina Shoemaker, general operations manager for Shoemaker's Travel Center, shared a picture in , I reached out to gather more information for NATSO’s COVID-19 webpage.

“We actually got the idea from Sapp Bros., and man I love being Nebraskan. We called their fuel desk and one of their employees sent me pictures of multiple stops as well as what they used,” said Shoemaker.

They bought the plexiglass at , noting that bought theirs at .

Because the ceilings are very tall at their West O location, they made the decision to put it on the counters with metal slides. They put the plexiglass into the metal slides rather than affixing it to the counter, so that it wasn’t permanent. “We cut the plexiglass and affixed it to the metal with screws. One thing to watch here is being careful because the plexiglass isn’t very thick,” noted Shoemaker.

In their other location that has lower ceilings, they affixed metal chain links to the plexiglass and hung it from the ceiling tiles.

“We had both up within an hour. Hanging from the ceiling was easier and took less time. In our shop, it’s a pre-hung ceiling and we have clips that clip into the cross braces. The plexiglass isn’t that heavy,” added Shoemaker.

Here are examples of the materials they used:
