Industry Urges Congress to Advance Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act

/

黑料社区and a coalition of industry associations urged Congress to schedule a vote on H.R. 2367, the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act. H.R. 2367 was reported out of committee in May 2023 by a vote of 60-4 but has stalled since then.

In a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, 18 industry associations underscored the critical role that truck parking plays in overall highway safety, national supply chain efficiency as well as truck driver recruitment and retention.

鈥淎ccessing safe and secure truck parking is an integral part of daily life for professional drivers, many of whom travel the nation鈥檚 Interstates for weeks at a time,鈥 the associations wrote. 鈥淢embers of Congress from every corner of the country and across the political spectrum have supported H.R. 2367 because they understand their constituents are affected by truck drivers鈥 ability to meet necessary rest requirements and operate as safely as possible.鈥

黑料社区supports H.R. 2367, which would prioritize grant applications that demonstrate partnership with the private sector. The legislation would maximize federal dollars by recognizing the important role that travel centers and truck stops play in serving America鈥檚 long-haul truck drivers by allowing grant recipients to partner with private truck parking providers to expand truck parking capacity nationwide.

With more than 5,000 Interstate truck stops and travel centers providing 90 percent of the truck parking capacity in the United States, truck stops and travel centers play a key role in addressing any state concerns over truck parking capacity.

Signatories included the American Trucking Associations, the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), Women in Trucking and others.
