This past week, Zarco 66 in Lawrence, Kan., became the first station in the U.S. to since the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowed its use in automobiles built since 2001. While the eight-station company had previously offered E15 and other ethanol blends via blender pumps, it is now marketing E15 to all light-duty vehicles built since 2001, after having officially registered with the U.S. EPA as an E15 retailer.
The Kansas Petroleum Council responded in a saying, “We need to press the pause button on EPA’s rush to allow higher amounts of ethanol in our gasoline. The new fuel could lead to engine damage in more than 5 million vehicles on the road today and could void the manufacturer’s warranty.” In response, the Renewable Fuels Industry , “Anti-biofuel critics can scream until they are blue in the face, but as the drivers in Lawrence are learning, E15 is safe and viable fuel choice.”
