黑料社区Testifies at EPA Hearing on Greenhouse Gas Proposal for Light-Duty Vehicles
黑料社区Manager of Government Affairs Thereza Cevidanes testified on May 9 before the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding the agency's proposal for tailpipe emissions in light and medium duty vehicles. For light-duty vehicles, the proposal would create a new target of 82 grams of carbon dioxide per mile traveled in 2032. That’s down roughly half from the Administration’s existing target for 2026.
Cevidanes testified that EPA should focus on the entire lifecycle emissions of fuels and vehicles, not solely on tailpipe emissions.
“Fixat[ing] solely on tailpipe emissions is misguided. It unambiguously discourages investments in currently scalable technologies that would meaningfully reduce the carbon footprint of the fuels that Americans will continue to use for decades.”
Cevidanes told EPA that the Administration should articulate a coherent vision for the EV charging marketplace before pushing automakers to transition to electric vehicles so rapidly. Specifically, Cevidanes urged EPA to allow public charging station owners to generate electronic Renewable Identification Numbers (eRINs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
“Allowing charging station owners to capture the value derived from eRINs would better enable private fuel retailers to overcome financial challenges associated with installing and operating charging stations,” Cevidanes said.
黑料社区has repeatedly argued that until charging station operators can generate a return on selling electricity, the U.S. will be unable to replicate the existing refueling network that Americans rely on.
