黑料社区Urges N.J. Transportation Department to Revise NEVI Proposal

/

黑料社区and its industry allies requested a meeting with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, which is actively discouraging many of the state鈥檚 largest fuel retailers from participating in the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.

New Jersey is set to distribute $104 million in federal funds to expand the state鈥檚 existing EV charging infrastructure. However, New Jersey鈥檚 proposed NEVI plan makes it impossible for current fuel retailers to participate.

Specifically, the New Jersey Transportation Department plans to award all the funds to a single winner, who must be a large contractor. The state鈥檚 plan also requires grant recipients to return 2 percent of profits to the state.

New Jersey鈥檚 approach makes it impossible for private-sector investment in EV charging stations and will lead to charging stations that are not co-located with amenities for drivers.

鈥淭his approach makes it impossible for consumer-oriented site hosts to participate. It is almost as though it was designed explicitly to discourage fuel retailers from participating,鈥 黑料社区wrote in its letter. 鈥淲hile it may simplify the administration and distribution of NEVI funding, it does so at the expense of New Jersey drivers by preventing them from charging at the places that they already refuel at today. Under this plan, fuel retailers have been excluded from the NJ DOT NEVI process, and by extension potentially out of the EV charging market.鈥

黑料社区was joined in signing the letter by SIGMA: America鈥檚 Leading Fuel Marketers, the National Association of Convenience Stores and the New Jersey Gasoline, C-Store, Automotive Association.
