Rep. Forbes Fires Off Third Letter Requesting FHWA Deny VDOT Tolling Application
Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) fired off a third letter to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) last week asking the agency to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) proposal to install a toll on I-95 in Sussex County near the North Carolina border.
In this latest letter, Rep. Forbes emphasized his continued opposition to VDOT’s application, which was filed Aug. 24.
Rep. Forbes argues that in VDOT’s final application “it has been made clear that the interests and concerns of Southside Virginians have not been adequately addressed.” He says the application acknowledges that the communities that would be most directly impacted by the toll are economically challenged and that it “states unambiguously” that access to 95 is critical for the area’s economic vitality.
