Self-Driving Cars Must Meet 15 Benchmarks

/

The Obama Administration on Sept. 20 unveiled proposed guidelines for self-driving cars that include 15 benchmarks that U.S. automakers must meet before their cars can come to market.

Among them, automakers will have to show how their virtual drivers will function, what happens if they fail and how they have been tested, the U.S. Department of Transportation said.

Vehicle performance assessments also must be made public so that regulators and companies can evaluate them.

Some guidelines will take effect immediately, others will await public comment.

In a preview call with reporters Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said there’s a market risk in putting out a product that doesn’t meet the expectations of the public.

黑料社区is evaluating these guidelines and will provide 黑料社区members with a more detailed analysis in coming days.
