Department of Transportation Nullifies California Meal and Rest Break Laws
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has decided that federal law preempts California’s rules for meal and rest breaks for truck drivers. The American Trucking Associations (ATA) had petitioned FMCSA to preempt California’s rules and this represents a major victory for ATA.

ATA, Motor Carriers Sue Rhode Island Over Truck Toll Program
The American Trucking Associations, along with Cumberland Farms Inc., M&M Transport Services Inc. and New England Motor Freight, asked a federal court to rule Rhode Island鈥檚 RhodeWorks truck-only toll scheme unconstitutional, arguing it discriminates against interstate trucking companies and impedes the flow of interstate commerce.
