Marking a major victory for 黑料社区members in the longstanding fight against tolling existing Interstate highways, a Federal judge ruled that Rhode Island鈥檚 truck-only tolling system known as 鈥淩hodeWorks鈥� is unconstitutional and ordered the state to stop charging tolls on tractor trailers within 48 hours.

The American Trucking Associations along with three motor carriers representing the industry on March 28 appealed the recent decision by the federal district court in Rhode Island to dismiss their challenge to Rhode Island鈥檚 RhodeWorks truck-only toll scheme, on procedural grounds.
03-29-2019 The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) said Dec. 20 that it would construct another 10 truck-only tolling gantries on Interstate 95 after the Federal Highway Administration reviewed its environmental assessment and issued a 鈥淔inding of No Significant Impact.鈥�
12-20-2018 The Rhode Island Department of Transportation filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the American Trucking Associations, Cumberland Farms Inc., M&M Transport Services and New England Motor Freight challenging the states truck-only tolls, arguing that they are asking the court to do something that it lacks jurisdiction to do. In a motion filed Aug. 24 in the U.S. District Court of Rhode Island, RIDOT cited the Tax Injunction Act, which restricts the power of the federal district courts to prevent the collection or enforcement of state taxes, as well as the 11th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
