Efforts to toll Interstate 81 in Virginia appear to have been put on hold this legislative session after the Virginia Senate Finance Committee adopted a substitute measure that establishes the Interstate 81 Corridor Improvement Fund but does not identify any funding options for improving Interstate 81.

The Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates, of which 黑料社区is a founding member, on June 15 urged Virginia鈥檚 Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) to exclude recommendations for tolls from its upcoming I-81 Corridor Improvement Plan, which is due to the Virginia General Assembly later this year.

The Virginia Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal of a ruling in a Portsmouth court battle over tolls that has called into question the constitutionality of delegating legislative authority to set toll rates and focused national attention on the future of public-private transportation partnerships in the state.

06-24-2013 by NATSO Senators Introduce Legislation to Repeal Renewable Fuel Standard

Echoing legislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year, U.S. Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) last week introduced 鈥淭he Renewable Fuel Standard Repeal Act鈥 (S. 1195), which would repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in its entirety. Sen. Barrasso said the RFS is “fundamentally broken and beyond repair,” and that it has driven up food and fuel costs rather than deliver meaningful environmental benefits.
