Home Service Oil Co., doing business as Express Mart, St. Louis, Missouri, has their managers’ “offices” in the center of its convenience stores.
The managers’ work space is integrated into the transaction counter area and is directly behind the cashier point-of-sale systems. This allows managers to be on the floor more, which increases their attention on employees and creates opportunities for them to be more in touch with customer needs.
