The House of Representatives last week voted 293 to 127 in favor of another transportation extension through Sept. 30, 2012. After having trouble passing its multi-year, comprehensive bill, House Republicans instead decided to pass another extension of current law with some changes that help streamline the highway construction process. The bill contains a provision that allows for the construction of the keystone XL pipeline, which will run from western Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n
Now, the Senate and House must conference their two different highway bill proposals. The Senate and House will first need to appoint conferees to negotiate the differences, which will begin in the coming weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
